The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program
Creating a More Inclusive Travel Experience
Navigating busy airports and flights can be overwhelming — especially for those with Alzheimer’s or other non-visible disabilities. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program offers a simple, discreet way for individuals to signal that they may need extra time, support, or understanding. By wearing a sunflower lanyard, travelers can alert trained staff to provide appropriate assistance, helping create a more accessible and empathetic journey for everyone.
While many U.S. airports have embraced the Sunflower Program, airlines have been slow to follow. United Airlines is leading the way and has become the first major U.S. airline to adopt the Sunflower Program, setting an important precedent for other airlines.
We need your help to spread the word!
The VoA Foundation has created a practical toolkit to empower our community to advocate for wider adoption of the Sunflower Program across U.S. airlines. It includes a guide for contacting airlines, key messages to share, and ways you can independently raise awareness and drive change. Your voice can help make travel more accessible for everyone impacted by Alzheimer’s and other cognitive conditions.
Our Board proudly supports the Sunflower Program, helping to create more compassionate and inclusive public spaces.
